They come in handy for placing hot items on counters, tables, etc. They are thicker than others I have used and seen - both in the actual height of the stand and in the thickness of their component "walls" of honeycomb structure. which also makes them stronger. I use them as trivets for hot food and for gripping plates (small plates) and as "spacers" between pots to protect the enameled or non-stick coating of the pots on them. When they get dirty, just toss them in the dishwasher to clean them, take them out, shake off the water and air dry and you're done. It is great!
