Review on EBC S5KF1346 Stage 5 Superstreet Brake by Zach Clements

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good rotors. Lower pads.

I bought a set of S5KF1346 Stage-5 Superstreet brakes for my Toyota Sequoia, they had slotted and grooved rotors and "flagship" high friction brake pads. What I've read about rotors seems true and reasonable to me, and I have no complaints about rotors. But the pads are worse. Far below average. I've done dozens of brake jobs in my life and I've never seen brake pads turn shiny aluminum front wheels black with dust in three days. I thought they might be dustier than usual during the break-in period, but after a week of riding they're still throwing black dust like crazy. Plus, these pads squeak and squeak louder than anything I've ever installed. Once the brakes are even a little warm, you can't touch the brakes without letting out a high-pitched decibel squeal that can wake neighbors and startle small children. So after only 200 miles I swapped out the pads for the Hawk pads I've used in the past and been happy with, which completely solved the squeak problem and greatly reduced the dusting. It's a shame that such a well advertised product with a great rotor comes with such a bad last.
