Gave it a real chance

I've owned this product since February so about 4 months is enough time to get to know it. I wish I could rate it higher but I can't. I'm a serious coffee drinker and not a thermometer/timer fanatic, but I enjoy a good cup of coffee (or three) every day and that's the problem. For 1 cup I would use either of the two manual grinders I have, but grinding enough coffee for 3 cups is too much. I've used a knife grinder in the past and it's worked pretty well, but only because I brew my coffee with a pourover and grind uniformity isn't as critical as it is with French press or espresso methods. The problem with this grinder is that it uses a horizontal or flat grinding mechanism. It grinds the coffee well, but throws out the coffee grounds by centrifugal force, and that's not very good. The cone mill uses gravity to dislodge the grist from the mill, as well as mechanical forces. My guess is that the flat burr grinder is cheaper to make because I've only seen it in cheaper models. In any case, the flat mill does not throw out the degree of grinding completely, so it is ground and ground until it is dust-fine and sticks to everything! They clog the hole between the grinder and the plastic container and tenaciously adhere to the container itself, making a mess when they get into your coffee maker of choice. So for each brew I use at least half a paper towel and at least a quart of water to clean up and a few minutes to clean up the mess. This grinder is inexpensive and fairly well made for the price, but it's not worth the hassle and waste. It reminds me every day that I saved about $30 on the purchase, but it's often better to spend more and not fret every day.
