Our old doorknobs could be opened by taking a wire bail, straightening the end of the hook and threading it through the small hole in the handle to open. When our daughter screamed because she locked herself in the room, we realized she wasn't working with our Quixet pens and we panicked. I ended up opening the door with a master key. We now have one of those "keys" over the panel on all of our doors. It keeps us on our toes. It's also great if you want to lock certain doors in your house to keep people and kids out during parties or when someone is working in your house. We always keep the door to our office locked so our little ones don't break it open.
