I've used slide converters in the past but wasn't happy with the results. This time I was pleasantly surprised. The device worked as advertised. You don't need a computer, but you do need a SanDisk card to take pictures. It has a very limited internal memory, but transferring images to a computer is much more difficult. The quality of a digital image obviously depends on the quality of the slide/film/etc. away. However, I felt that the digital image was as good as the slide. I suggest that you inspect each image after taking it to see if there is any dust or dirt built up on the lens. In this case, the device comes with a lens cleaning brush before dust remains on the scanned images.
