yes they are light. It is easily portable. It's well built with some nice features like hose clamps and a collapsible cord compartment. But there are two main problems. First, the suction power is very, very weak. And that's after reading all the reviews about the suction power of this machine! My large shop vacuum has twice the suction power of this unit. In fact, I had to vacuum the car again with a big vacuum because the Vacmaster left so much dirt on the floor. The second problem is that the suction hoses do not stay attached. I don't care how hard you squeeze them, the plastic is very slippery and when cleaning, the wide nozzle-nozzle constantly flies off the hose. I am very very disappointed in this machine and caution others to shop with caution as it does not perform as the reviews claim.
