I decided to try this antenna on a whim. First I used it to measure the SWR of my radio. In short mode I got over 3 on the SWR meter. However, when extending the antenna it quickly dropped to almost 1 which was great. The same happens with the transfer. I did not hit the repeater with a short antenna. I stretch and suddenly I can climb into the repeater. On the other hand, the length of the antenna didn't seem to affect reception. The material seems pretty hard. It flexes and snaps back into place well whether stretched or not. I'm surprised how well it works. Yes, you may not be able to transmit as well if it's short, but that means your radio with antenna will take up less space when you're not transmitting. I think that does the thing pretty well.
