Whoever chose a width for Nikon knows that this is not an easy task. I chose the width on the D800 for a long time, after countless test shots I took 18-35. Compared with 28, 16-35 and 14-24. 16-35 fell away, in general, by itself, and in general the hysteria about him is completely incomprehensible to me. The lens suffers from low resolution not only in the corners of the frame, but also just around the edges (especially at 35mm and low apertures). 2mm width is of course an argument, but for me it was absolutely not critical. Nano coating for a person using light filters is a useless thing. Of course, I really want VR, but the difference in the picture outweighed it. Then I compared 18-35 and 14-24. Their clarity is approximately the same, but 14-24 is lighter and almost does not distort the geometry. Here the price factor played (the lens with the Lee Holder and the set of filters I needed was approaching 100k 2022 money) and the fact that 35mm is much more important to me than 14mm. It only remained to compare with 28mm. There are no surprises here, 28mm, starting from f 2.8, definitely outperforms the zoom lenses I reviewed in terms of picture quality (which, however, is not surprising) and was the main reason for my headache on the question of what to choose. As a result, a choice was made in the direction of versatility and 18-35 took its place in my backpack (which I have never regretted so far). I hope my research will help you make your own choice, because everyone has their own tasks and their own priorities when choosing lenses. : Almost a year has passed since the review was written, it has accumulated for an ate. 1. If you use a filter, then the outer moving parts of the lens (trunk) are under it. Although many people say that this lens does not have weather sealing, my practice shows that this is not the case. He passed through tropical downpours, coral, volcanic and ordinary sand mixed with clay without any visible consequences. At the last stage of cleaning I use Photographic Solutions Eclipse Optic Lens Cleaning Solution. 2. Lightroom 5.4 finally has a profile for this lens
