There were a handful of useless knives that friends almost threw away. They left them with me and after a learning curve the others were very easy to sharpen. I don't need a jagged start, but others are very predictable. Try to keep the same number of sticks at the same angles, and making fewer passes will help as you progress to smaller stones. It changed my Buck knife from being slightly sharper than a butter knife to a push and slash sharpness. No regrets with this set as it brings the knife back to life even before I've looked at steak knives (which I've had compliments on their performance). Company Note - I received a broken box/mount for this set (not a deal breaker but upsets me). Contacted the company and received a replacement box via airmail without question. I couldn't ask for more and would recommend to others for their service and ease of use.
