Not the same as my dad's 20 year old Gatco system

After borrowing my dad's and uncle's Gatco systems dozens of times over almost 20 years, I decided that it finally time to pack up and buy yourself. To my extreme disappointment, I found that each guide rod went freely inside each of the bricks (some more than others) and dangled back and forth. This completely defeats the purpose of creating a system that must maintain the same angle. Let me tell you how much they will hang around without maintaining the sharpening angle. Great idea, poorly implemented due to the use of cheap materials

While probably a good product when originally conceived, replacing metal with plastic throughout made it too cheap. The "hard" plastic case is fragile and two different ones broke during shipping. Both were packaged incorrectly, but in both cases the plastic was unfit for use. It was too harsh, which probably saved them 10 cents in production, but definitely didn't last long. Don't expect to leave the set in there for very long as it will self-destruct. The sharpeners themselves looked normal…

Sharpens to razor sharpness!

There were a handful of useless knives that friends almost threw away. They left them with me and after a learning curve the others were very easy to sharpen. I don't need a jagged start, but others are very predictable. Try to keep the same number of sticks at the same angles, and making fewer passes will help as you progress to smaller stones. It changed my Buck knife from being slightly sharper than a butter knife to a push and slash sharpness. No regrets with this set as it brings the knife
