While probably a good product when originally conceived, replacing metal with plastic throughout made it too cheap. The "hard" plastic case is fragile and two different ones broke during shipping. Both were packaged incorrectly, but in both cases the plastic was unfit for use. It was too harsh, which probably saved them 10 cents in production, but definitely didn't last long. There were a handful of useless knives that friends almost threw away. They left them with me and after a learning curve the others were very easy to sharpen. I don't need a jagged start, but others are very predictable. Try to keep the same number of sticks at the same angles, and making fewer passes will help as you progress to smaller stones.
