This jig works and is easy to master with a first drill. The instruction book is excellent with step-by-step photos. After not getting good results with a doctor's drill and a cheap jig that uses the side of the grinding wheel, I decided to try this jig and was pleasantly surprised. Installation on the Tormek machine took just a few seconds. This drill creates a unique sharpened point with 4 flats that I have never seen on a drill before. I call this the "Tormek Shape". It is similar to the split point but slightly different as it forms a point in the center of the chisel edge where the 4 facets overlap. You can choose from a variety of top and neck angles. I tested the sharpened 1/4" bit on wood and mild steel and it worked just as well as the factory sharpened cast end bit. Before sharpening, the nozzle must be aligned in the holder. This is a complex operation performed on the eye. Take your time to even out the beat. This is my only complaint as eye alignment is difficult even with the included magnifying glass attachment (I have 20/20 eyesight). If you deviate just a few degrees, the edges won't be perfect, but the drill will still cut with less durability. If you start with a badly worn drill bit, it will be difficult to align and the alignment will change when there is a lot of material. needs to be sanded. My first attempt suffered, but after reading the troubleshooting section of the guide, I rotated the bit a few degrees and sharpened it to perfection in just a few minutes, as it was already close to the "Tormek" shape. The initial sharpening/sharpening of the small bits is quick, while the 1/2" bit takes time. Once you've shaped the Tormek point, re-sharpening is very quick if you don't change the geometry. This is the first machine on which I was able to get a predictable result. As mentioned, the process is not fully automatic due to the visual alignment, but once the large clamp is clamped, the pins and guides on the jig practically guarantee a symmetrical result. When approaching A sense of proportion is required to adhere to the final shape, but since the bit holder is very easy to remove, inspection of the work is very easy.
