Cheap Vizio remotes. Don't drop it!

First, we love Vizio Smart TVs. This review is for the remote control, not the TV. However, if you are looking to buy a TV, this review may be necessary. We bought two Vizio Smartcast TVs in November 2017. We just got our sixth console in the mail. The remotes are slim and sleek to the point where you can hit the wrong button with a slippery finger and rewind instead of a pause, or if you try to hit the Netflix button you could accidentally hit the crackle button. Oh ok. big thing. HOWEVER - If you drop the remote from, for example, the height of your sofa/chair, there is a good chance it will open and the batteries will die. Yes, you can reassemble it without any problems, but after 2-3 falls, for some reason, the keyboard is not responding. The inner bezel appears to be misaligned and the buttons are not positioned correctly. I really can't explain it. Once I managed to get the keys to work. Not many stores have a universal remote that supports all Smart TV functions. We were told that we could use our smartphone. Yes you can, but you still don't have all the functionality of a real remote control. Now that two Vizio TVs are using the same remotes in two different places in the house we now know that after 3 falls the remote will need to be replaced. I think we could be less clumsy, but things happen. It's just that the design isn't comfortable (well, maybe for people over 40). Attach the Velcro remote to your shirt sleeve, dip it into the elastic rubber coating, and it's likely to survive a 2 foot drop.
