This is a sturdy handle with an attractive black enamel finish. Pretty hard. Overall, I like the quality, except for one thing: the door latch is clunky and annoying to use. I use the door a lot, so this handle doesn't work for its intended purpose. I kept it because it's a quality pen, but I gave it a different job that doesn't require a door and ordered a different brand. As for the door, most handles have simple pop-bolt latches. This one looks the same but there is an extra hook at the end of the latch so the latches had to rotate into position to open. possibly helpful if you have small children so they cannot let the dog out, but impractical if you are in a safe situation and intend to let the dog in and out frequently. Maybe it's just a thing for some situations, but just FYI
