Review on TOM Aquarium Canister and Power Filter Surface Skimmer by Koller Products by Jackie Wilson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very happy with this skimmer

If you are reading this then you probably have that smoky/oily film on the surface of your water. This skimmer is exactly what you need. I've lived with that for years. Recently I bought a circulation head and aimed it at the surface to get rid of the film. This helped a lot with the movement of the water in the tank, but the film was still there. Within five minutes of connecting this skimmer to my canister filter, the problem was completely gone. I couldn't be happier. From now on I will buy them and run them on every tank I have this problem with. Please note that the "fine tuning" process will take a few minutes. What you are doing is balancing the inlet ratio between the skimmer block at the top and the traditional fence at the bottom of the block (hard to see in the product photo but it also has a traditional filter inlet at the bottom). . The inlet of the skimmer floats just below the water surface. You'll have to do a little tinkering to get the device at the correct height, then adjust the ratio between the two air intakes. Once you type it in, you're done. This will add some sound to your setup (I hesitate to call it hiss) but it's very minimal in my opinion and worth the results. It's just false noise and I don't think it can be avoided. The design of the device is pretty awesome and I wonder why not all filters come with something like this. My background and all of my gear is black, and as a bonus for me, this replaces the milky-white inlet on my Fluval 306 canister filter that stuck out like a sore thumb (shame on you Fluval!). The cost is very cheap for the results achieved. Take it. Unless you're one of those unintelligent people who doesn't settle for anything, you'll love the results.
