Triplet is a decent brand of test equipment and I needed a basic phone line tester for the home as I have switched from Verizon FiOS to Comcast Xfinity X1 for internet, TV and phone communications . The ability to test phone jacks (RJ-11) and network jacks (RJ-45) seemed like a great feature, so I ordered a line tester. My problem is that the tester says ALL my phone jacks are not properly connected (the red LED is on when the tester is connected). For real? I have an RJ-11 connector with two alligator clips on the other end. One alligator clip has red and black wires, the other has green and yellow wires. If I connect the green wire to the green pin of the junction box in the basement (where all the green wires from all the outlets in the house are connected) and the red wire to the red pin of the junction box (or TIP and RING respectively), then plug the RJ-11 plug into the tester (via an adapter with two RJ-11 sockets), the tester shows a red LED. Something wrong. Either the triplet tester is not properly connected or the Comcast phone jack (inside the router/modem) is not properly connected. Phones all work fine no matter what. Greater chance of the triplet tester being wrong unless I'm missing something. Oh, just for the record, when I test the yellow and black wires in the junction box with their respective alligator clips, the tester shows a green LED, although none of my phones use either of those two, only TIP and RING (red and green).
