Review on πŸ”Œ Convenient and Reliable: Explore GM Genuine Parts 22862011 Liftgate Release Switch by Darryl Jennings

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits Equinox 2012 - no other replacement parts required.

Installed on 2012 Equinox - Tailgate switch was not stable. This replacement is fairly easy to install - it replaces the old rubber switch so it looks different, but you don't need an extra bezel or anything with that part number. To install, you must first remove the interior paneling. Note that there is a screw in the handle area of the inner panel, pry up the plastic cover and you will see the screw is hiding underneath. Once the interior trim is removed you will need to remove the plastic trim on the outside of the rear door that contains this switch box. The panel is held in place by a number of nuts and plastic clips that are accessible from the inside of the rear door (ie, the side of the panel). First remove the nuts - each has an access hole in the tailgate structure to access them. I then used the 7mm head to pinch the plastic tabs on the plastic mounts - push the 7mm head down on the plastic tabs and it will pinch the ears just enough to remove easily (easier than trying to to put pliers, etc. in there). The actual switch just slides out of that plastic panel on the tailgate and the new one slides in.
