I mostly used Shimano SPDs but I also had flat tires. I finally found the pedal of my dreams. I love how I can just start pedaling after a touch or when I come off the technical incline. Don't look for the middle ground, just flat pedal until the sound is soft, then click. In any case, it snaps halfway into place. You don't have to worry about the pedals bouncing on uneven descents like on level ground. However, I recommend zero float spikes. Release was almost as easy as my XT SPDs before the cleat change, after that I'd say it's probably the same or easier.
