I have a lot of wireless devices in my home. The Verizon FIOS router that connects to the internet has really terrible low speed Wi-Fi. The Internet is much faster than WiFi can transport it throughout the house. I used to have a second access point in the house that offered much faster speeds, but lately it started to fail. It made us all want to share a slow one. I wanted something faster and more reliable to replace my old system. I recently got a Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch that allows me to power my peripherals over an Ethernet cable, and I was very interested in an access point that could take advantage of the new technology. I have enough wall warts in the house not to bring new ones. This part worked perfectly. When connecting a new access point to a PoE switch, the access point lit up without additional power supply. The switch showed negligible power consumption, but left enough power for other devices. Setting up an access point is about the same as any other. It needs to be connected to a PC via an Ethernet port and some settings need to be assigned. For example, the SSIDs it uses to advertise itself and the corresponding encryption types. This allows separate SSIDs for the 2.4 GHz band and the 5 GHz band. This makes it a bit easier to separate fast and slow devices. I like that I can activate individual bands individually. Today I don't have any of the 5GHz devices at home, so I don't have to run radios. One of the most important settings to change is the router password. Most villains can probably guess admin and admin. Overall, the setup was very similar to any other router. Some key settings needed to be adjusted right away, and there are many settings that can be changed to tweak the system later if needed. The power supply is included, which makes sense for the setup, but I won't need it with my PoE switch. My laptop connected to the new hotspot without hesitation after receiving the configuration I wanted. Most importantly, the router is much faster than Verizon. It can maintain the FIOS speed we paid for and the whole family will be happier. Websites load faster and videos play smoother. Exactly what I was hoping for! I received this product at a discount in exchange for my fair and honest review.
