Review on ๐Ÿพ Enhanced OXO Steel Vertical Lever Corkscrew featuring Removable Foil Cutter by Joe Fulce

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great wine opener, not so good foil knife.

I have had many different wine openers over the years. with a metal leg that rests against the top of the bottle to provide leverage when peeking - in both cases these species broke the glass bottle and forced me to pour the wine down the drain for fear of broken glass in the wine. I've had several two-handers. They work fairly well, but require a twisting motion that I find less and less comfortable as I get older. Some of them broke (usually the lever breaks) and it's a hassle to get the cork out. This opener is excellent. It takes a little effort to insert the corkscrew into the cork, remove the cork from the bottle, and pull the cork out of the opener when you're done. In either case, this means moving the lever (up or down), which is easier and less painful than a twisting motion. A nice feature is that the foil cutter is stored right by the opener from where it can be easily removed and replaced. I also prefer this type of foil cutter (as opposed to, for example, the dangerous sharp edge of a knife that can easily slip off the bottle and add an extra red color to your wine). Unfortunately, this is the least efficient cutter of this type that I have ever used (even compared to the cheapest ones). In many cases he simply pushes the film in instead of cutting it. If I press *very* hard in the right place, the foil tears into thin strips. I don't know, the problem is that the cutter wheels aren't sharp enough or the plastic body of the cutter wheel surrounding the cutter wheels doesn't allow them to cut deep enough into the film to cut through. There are a few bottles that it works well with and it seems to work with bottles that have plastic foil rather than metal foil, but mostly it takes a long time. I think I could just get another brand of this type of foil cutter, but I really like being able to store the cutter on the knife.
