The AEM CAI for the Mazda RX-8 is actually a rebrand of the original MazdaSpeed CAI for the car. Whether the MS came after AEM or not, the two air intakes are the same and I'm pretty sure you'll spend a lot more than that deal just for the MazdaSpeed name. Installation is fairly easy, although I recommend pulling the installation guide from the web to accompany the instructions that came with the package - they can be a bit messy at times. As others have said you will need to remove the front bumper and roll bar (and get them back on track) and remove the old VFAD (Variable Fresh Air Duct) during installation. Everything fits well when you have the right connectors and parts where they should be. Be very careful with the shields when installing, you need them to ensure the airflow on your MAF sensor is being read and corrected correctly and they can easily come loose or bend if you are not careful with their installation. As for actual performance. I can't say this recording made any difference other than lowering my intake temp, but the noise is guttural, deep, and growling. Sounds fantastic at full throttle. It's the first thing you'll notice when you first open it and it'll bring a smile to your face. Don't expect more than a few horsepower from this, nothing you can spot without tweaking.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
