I found this gadget via a blog post while looking for instructions on how to add crown molding and cornices to our plastered walls. It is very difficult to find studs on plastered and turned walls. Regular hairpin seekers don't work, and simple "cavity tapping" doesn't work at all. - If you are NOT on a stud you will need to use special plaster anchors to support the screws and nails will not work at all. . Plaster crumbles, unlike drywall. THIS magic magnetic popper is such a silly simple tool that is life changing on cast. The magnet simply pops out when moved over the internal screws. Follow this popup on the wall to find more screws and make sure you are actually on the stud. My husband was extremely skeptical that a $10 plastic magnet would work. It quickly becomes a standard accessory when we renovate, add crown molding, build in wardrobes, etc.
