Review on IRWIN Tools Magnetic Level 1794482 by Elvis Kohl

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for wooden poles, light weight and perfect for travelers on a budget.

I found this works great for my little project. I only needed this to level some 4x4 wooden posts that were used to fence off a patio. It was very accurate and easy to use and I am very happy with the results. You can hold it on the stand with your hand to check the level on the spot, or attach it to the stand for easy hands-free checking of the level. It's plastic and very light, which is good, but not sure how well it will hold up in a pro's toolbox. Not something I'd just carelessly throw in a box, but it works great for DIY projects and is a handy price point for limited projects. They attached it to a 4 x 4 wooden stand with the included rubber band, but as you can imagine the rubber band isn't that strong. Mine lasted a few days and is showing some wear, but the good news is that the rubber straps aren't that difficult to replace. Others suggested replacing the rubber band with a short one. For long-term use, you might want to find a more permanent solution to attach this, but you might not. A rubber band is a pretty easy thing to do once you have one. There are magnetic strips on the back that can be attached to a metal rod and I will say that the strips don't seem to have a very strong magnetic attraction. The magnetic strips are on the back, all four sides, and the bottom and top so there is some strength to the number of magnets, but effective retention would require a lot of metal surface available to hold the strips associate. I will say it didn't hold up very well to the smaller rounded posts of my own 40 year old chain link fence. The larger the metal stand, the better the holding capacity of the magnetic strips. However, I have experience with wooden poles, so I'll let someone else evaluate the functionality of metal poles. However, for me there are better post level tools, especially for wooden poles and small DIY projects, I can only warmly recommend this post level because of the price and the performance.
