Review on πŸš— Gates 45005 Automotive Water Pump by Trey Michaels

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfectly assembled and installed, pressure tested and initially worked as expected on day one. Will be updated.

Replaced Napa's "lifetime" POS warranty, which lasted 2.5 years and just under 30,000 miles, with our 2002 Avalanche with 169,000 miles. The cooling system was otherwise in perfect condition (the pre-purged DEX coolant that was removed for this new Gates pump was perfect, although we didn't reuse it). Thus, in my opinion, there was no reason for the Napa part to fail so early (thankfully it got caught near the house and didn't overheat). So the move to Gates is based on a lot of positive feedback here. The original GM OEM pump lasted 90,000 miles so my expectations were much higher than 30,000 miles with Napa (I'll get a new Napa pump in the shop to be installed (never again. Do your job for $0 per hour and better). although these guys are "Pro") in return and for something worth having and keep it in the field as an emergency spare repair, but we'll see if I ever use it). Comes with all high quality metal/silicone gaskets for both the pump itself and the thermostat o-ring (they also include a paper gasket which I haven't used and opted for a 'grey' Permatex light film water pump and an RTV Thermos decided on both sides of the water pump housing seals as well as a bandage for the lid of the thermal house before fitting the sealing ring for the metal to metal connection.
