These look great out of the box, seem to be very good quality materials.Light blockingThe seal and fit for blocking out light was excellent. Never had a better sleep mask at blocking out light.Reducing light has become more important for me to get a quality amount of sleep and rest. Helps for a 20 minute reset in the afternoon once or twice a week as well, something about blocking out all light for 20 minutes whether I nap/sleep or not, helps declutter my focus.Nose & Ear ComfortAt first use, the comfort level of this mask seemed good, and after a couple uses a couple things came to my attention that make the comfort just ok.The elastic strap is sort of wide, about half an inch, but just out of the box, the elastic has a slight scratchy feel at the edges if it touches my ears or that area here your ears connect to your head.I found myself either trying to reposition the strap up higher to dodge my ears or trying to shift strands of hair to protect my ears just a bit. It’s not something that ‘hurts’ but does ‘annoy’ or ‘distract’ and when you are trying to sleep or relax or meditate, that’s not helpful. The padding around the eyes and nose, is the same level of thickness as all edges.Just out of the box, the thickness of the edges closes off my nasal passages just a bit forcing me to breathe through my mouth. If you are a mouth breather, no worries over this. If you are meditating or breathe through your nose, this might be a challenge.I’ve used masks that were worse at closing off nasal passages than this one. I’d say this closes my nasal passages by about half on both sides. (Other masks often close off my left nasal passage, but not my right.)I’m curious whether these will looses up as they are used more and maybe soften around the nasal passages.Eye ComfortI have glaucoma in one eye, and so I am hyperaware of not adding pressure to my eyes. This mask does a great job of keeping the mask from touching my eyelids! The challenges with the nasal passages and the straps led me to try adjusting the mask slightly up or down on my nose and the strap on my head to get it away from my ears. Moving things around tended to then create a problem with the edges touching my eyelids.Side SleepersI sleep about 50/50 on my back or on my side.If I can’t breathe through my nose, then I tend to sleep on my side. With this mask partially blocking my nasal passages I tried sleeping on my side and its a bit awkward as there’s an edge of the mask that when your head is on its side that sort of pinches or tips the mask a bit and pushes it around. If you sleep on your back with your mouth open and really need to have all light blocked out, this is great.Side sleepers maybe not as great.
