October 19th - I broke my carafe and considering another reviewer was denied a replacement I just tracked down an even better carafe which isn't that flimsy and around the edges the color matches and looks cute even with a pen. look for E: Vintage PYREX Glass Coffee Pot CARAFE Black Bee Pattern. You can use a metal filter holder or a glass filter holder #3 with it as shown in my picture (#2 would probably look better - update: #2 looks better and fits better, the carafe fits the rim spout area more easily and you can still use filter #4!). However, you CANNOT use the burner anymore as you need to fill the inside of the burner to keep the carafe from rocking as it is too wide to fit in the burner. I simply made a thick semi-circular piece of foil as it is heat resistant and because of its color it looks like a piece of edging maker and works great to keep the carafe level. I like this decanter even more than the originals, it feels less fragile and the old pyrex glass is quite strong. 8/7 - I don't like the metal filter, it leaves ground coffee residue in the coffee, and I didn't like the plastic filter basket either. a strange smell came after heating and it was not possible to keep the inner floor clean due to the combs etc. edges in the basket. I found a "glass" filter basket to use with it, and while my coffee was already delicious, it's actually cleaner (if that makes sense) with this glass filter basket, so I'm guessing that the plastic, that came with this rim has added flavor to my coffee (I have overly sensitive taste buds and it could also be because you can't completely clean the inside of the bottom even with a small piping brush, leaving old coffee stains that spoil the coffee possibly make bitter or similar) ). In any case, it is highly recommended to swap out the filter basket for the "Hario V60 Glass Coffee Filter Size 03", it fits well in this carafe and doesn't get hot at the top edge so you won't burn yourself when removing it after brewing out. They make special filters for this glass dropper, aka my new filter basket, but they stink from what I collect, so I still use Malitta cone filters and just bend them a bit more (for size comparison; they're 2 in my drawing). ). Oxo coffee bean hopper / Lido 3 grinder and 20oz mug.) - This coffee maker is the right size for me, not big and not small, perfect to put in a corner like mine. Over the kettle it's perfect for me even if it would normally bother me but oh my god my coffee tastes so good these days. - I had one of the best customer services online with them! Now for its cons/etc: - The water tank stays fogged up forever, it seems because after about 10-11 hours of last use it was still fogged up when I woke up the next day. (Keep the lid closed or slightly ajar for about an hour after brewing, this usually stops) - there is no way NOT to use a warmer plate, which I really hate because you can't put an empty glass carafe on top when they are still is hot, since I'm doing 4 cps at a time I have to put the empty carafe on the hot stand, not back on the coffee maker! - a warm plate stinks when it is warm/hot! Whatever the black finish, it gives off a slight chemical burnt plastic smell, similar to the smell around the manufacturer, the smell is worse if you smell too warm. UPDATE: 8/7, the smell is almost invisible now. - The area under the faucet/showerhead is plastic, so there is a plastic smell when it's hot. There, since the middle ones do all the work 90% of the time. - The silicone case is not fully heat resistant, those of us with sensitive fingertips ie non-rough hands may still feel warm. it doesn't burn on my own, but my fingertips turn reddish when I touch the carafe immediately after brewing. The silicone case also gives off a slightly pungent rubbery smell when heated during brewing, so it leaves its scent on your hand. . UPDATE: This has also been reduced a bit. I definitely agree with that, but it doesn't brew in the 197.6°F to 204.8°F range, after the first day in the 200 to 202 range it brewed at a maximum of 192 to 198°F every time (me checked 5 times a day for the first 3 days and randomly from then on). - The wide and long sticker they stick in front of the manufacturer is easy enough to remove, but any glue used on this sticker will corrode and whiten the nickel surface, allowing you to see the invisible shiny area of the label underneath yours matte nickel finish from the manufacturer! - Last but not least, I had problems with my decanter, I didn't like the air bubbles at the bottom and it seemed more to the top. I may be wrong, but I swear I remember you shouldn't use glass with air bubbles/imperfections in it under temperature changes/high heat. I tried searching for it again but couldn't find anything about it but I still felt uncomfortable so I contacted the decanter replacement company and I don't know who the other reviewer contacted who didn't get a response but I did contacted Brim via email which is listed on their website at 11:37pm and by 10:42am the next day I had the case number and a new carafe on the way and they are waiting for me to send them a confirmation picture of the Proof of purchase, manufacturer's picture labels and send my addi (they said up to 4 weeks but I got it from Canada on the 6th day) and this is one of the few fastest and best customer services ever for me. Cons, you could just return the coffee maker and choose something else, but until you actually try your first coffee cup from this thing you can't understand why you never could. I don't have the time, or rather, I'm too grumpy and don't have the patience to manually pour coffee in the morning, and this thing does it for me, so it's not going anywhere until it's dead, even if I technically don't as some of the issues with the way it is made and that I cannot replace the carafe after the two year warranty has expired as they do not offer for sale nor any spare parts such as filters. (for future reference when the decanter is needed: Decanter size: 9.5 inches high - 5 inches wide - 3 inches in neck)
