This towel is medium thickness. I use them in the kitchen with no problem on countertops, hands, utensils etc. They wash well in warm water and dry well on low temperatures and I haven't found anything to complain about yet. The first wash showed minimal shrinkage of less than an inch in length and width, and the colors stayed beautiful and vibrant! Towels absorb well, but I also don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets to keep my towels absorbency optimal. That said, the towels are still reasonably soft, they don't cause hand drying discomfort even when I don't use fabric softener, and they don't feel rough or scratchy, so I'm happy to use them for things like my antique Italian blown glass.
