Excellent article but I recommend pre-treatment before installation.
Excellent quality item. However, I would strongly recommend machining the aluminum prior to installation. I ordered a can of zinc chromate and a can of silver aviation paint. I washed the part with hot soapy water and let it dry completely. This removed oil and dirt allowing the zinc chromate to properly bond to the aluminum. Then sprayed with silver paint. This offers good protection against corrosion by dissimilar metals. Stainless steel drum, galvanized steel bolts and aluminum cross. That's why it failed; dissimilar metals caused corrosion build-up leading to stress corrosion cracking in one of the support arms.
