I was tempted to buy this book after reading reviews from several popular bloggers, but I bought it due to previous unsuccessful attempts at lace knitting, postponed. I'm definitely not a beginner knitter, just a beginner knitter. I also can't imagine ever going anywhere where a lace scarf would fit (I'm the girl in blue jeans). However, when another Revain reviewer said the patterns were relatively easy, I jumped the fence and ordered. I also thought if I knit one of these beautiful shawls it could be a gift for my niece for her wedding. After going through all the charts and reading Nancy's napping tips, I started the peacock tail. and a scarf with a pattern in the form of leaves. It looked small enough to finish in a reasonable amount of time. It also had just enough buttons to make it interesting, but not so many that it was scary. After finishing the bottom edge and 4 repeats of the center pattern, I want to share my own button knitting tip. When I get to them I use double pointed needles a few sizes larger than what I use for 7 nupps. (For example, I use circular needle size 5 for a shawl, but I use size 10 needle for buttonholes.) dbp, place a marker on the smaller right needle, then move the breast stitches to the right needle. I loosely knit the next few stitches in the pattern to make sure the large nupp stitches are tightened. On the P WS row the beginning of the large opening st is clearly visible and the marker prevents me from knitting P sts with extra sts. One more word of caution: if you're purl-stitching for the cover-up, make sure you get all seven. Especially the penultimate stitch (which was a double crochet) tends to wrap around the left needle, making it difficult for the point of the right needle to get under it. When this happens, your nupp will have a loose stitch that looks bad. This is a good reason to use sharp point needles instead of the blunt bamboo needles I use.
