Without a strap, the case doesn't hold the drill well when moving. The whole point for me is to quickly holster it, climb a ladder, use a drill and holster it back. I can't bend and loosen the drill bit every few seconds. Without a strap, the drill falls out very easily, especially with larger batteries that strain the back of the drill. The least useful feature is the bit holder, which is why I bought the holster. Bits keep falling out, snagging on ladder rungs, falling through half of the rubber bands (half open, half closed), and the closed bit holders are barely high enough to hold small bits, let alone longer bits. I haven't used it long enough to decide if the elastic bit holders will hold, but I really doubt it's possible; They hardly hold any new bits. I stopped using it in favor of a metal belt clip that attaches directly to the drill and remade an 8-hole rubber bit holder that attaches to the drill. The drill never falls off my belt and the bits are now always with the drill.
