Review on LIFT 60743 1000 Air Spring by Everette Jean

Revainrating 4 out of 5

*UPDATE #2 and #3* for Air Ride Kits

Car - 2001 4runner Use - daily driver and car camping (roof top tent) Gear - Camping gear, clothes and food for 2 people. Skill Level - Former ASE Certified Mechanic, determined per instructions provided. I put 5psi in them to make sure they held air and they did. We camped twice. After installation in just a month, one of the bags has a hole and won't hold air. I'll post again after telling what I found, even if I did that on install. I'm wondering if any of the lines (at the connection point or the plastic tee) had a leak which meant it was running at the minimum recommended pressure of 5psi. Sequel follows. *EDIT #2* (Saturday) Okay I've looked into the system and here's the conclusion - we checked the system to find where it was leaking and narrowed it down to the passenger side. When we jacked up the car and pulled out the spring/airbag, we found that the hose was about six inches from where it connected to the bag. It appears to have been pinched somehow, but I'm not sure how or what pinched it. My current theory is that as the pockets "collapse" and move on, the volume of the system increases as the pockets expand, and thus the air pressure decreases. With the reduced pressure in the system combined with our camping gear and some off-road riding (perhaps the hose was a bit too long) I believe this allowed the bag/hose to move into a position where the hose could be pinched. . Damned! CHECK SYSTEM PRESSURE – EVERY DAY for the first week and EVERY WEEK for the first month. Adjust the pressure in the system as your weight load increases/decreases. We replaced the hose, bled the system and went camping. *EDIT #3* (Sunday, yes, the next day). So there is another, slower leak somewhere. System pumped up and driven home (about an hour). When we got home the pockets were flat again. Further testing, same procedure as yesterday, same results - passenger side leaking. We put the spring/bag back on, this time inflating the bag and dipping it into the bucket of water. Yes, there is a hole (see photo). I'm not sure if this happened when the system was depressurizing earlier OR if this caused the system to lose air pressure to begin with. and I'm not sure what caused the hole - it looks more like a hole than a jab, so maybe a rock or stick got in there, but who knows. I ordered a second set of bags so I could replace the damaged parts once they were identified, so I installed a new bag. The system is holding its breath and I'll be watching closely. Updates will follow. For now I've increased my rating from 1 star to 4 stars as the problem I'm having is not related to a product defect. As I use the car I will update this review and add/remove stars as needed. After finally driving my car with a full load and the Air Lift properly inflated, I can say that I really enjoy driving without bouncing off the fenders anymore! The 60743 Series 1000 Air Lift System works as advertised and I recommend it.
