At first I tried replacing just the motor. That motor just wasn't enough to raise the footboard. Tried this after reading another review. It worked. It took less than an hour. For those with EL, there is a connector bar that connects the front bracket to the rear bracket. You don't need a connecting rod. I drilled out the rivet holding the linkage to the front motor mount and just tied the linkage to the frame. The footrest opens and closes smoothly and silently.
