1 year use after stress related hair loss

Long review but I think it's worth sharing my experience with hair loss (it's not really a horror story) I had a stressful summer of 2018. Stress at work, stress at home. I'm worried, of course, but 2018 has taken over for me. I grew my hair to the longest length ever, about mid-back. I noticed I was starting to lose a ton and I made a commitment not to cut it forever. That was April/May 2018. Well, I kept shedding. and shed. and shed. I could run my fingers, pull a little, and the hair would fall out. No big deal, never thought about it. Until I got my hair cut. I go to the local network as usual. She cuts my hair and says I'll lose my hair if she brushes it. TURN ON panic mode! I look at my scalp every day, count the hairs and drive myself crazy. My scalp, parting and bangs suddenly became very thin. My scalp stuck out like a sore thumb. Nobody seemed to notice, but I did. That was in September 2018. I have an appointment with my family doctor. I ask about my HBP medication (I'm only 36 and HBP runs in the family) and he tells me it's not known if it causes hair loss. I tell him okay. This summer my nerves were wrecked and I also lost about 20 pounds. He says: BINGO! I am asking for help and have started taking medication for anxiety. It was October 2018. I was also talking to a friend. What helps. I spoke to another woman who was suffering from stress-related hair loss. She assured me you wouldn't go bald. it will be as you will be! But you won't. It takes time to recover. It was nice to share the experience. If you ever google this topic. Of course, there are more horror stories than recovery stories. 6 months after my probable trigger point (April 2018). I shed a little when I brush, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was 2 months ago. After seeing a doctor, I started taking pregnancy medication and biotin. I also bought the Nioxin 3 system at the end of November 2018. I *ALWAYS* had thin and thin hair. My hair always fell out too. It's so thin and thin that it's almost impossible to see when it falls off. When I'm in the car with my husband and the windows are down, there's always something in his beard! He takes it and hands it to me. "I think this is yours!" I bought the Nioxin system because stylists highly recommended it for thinning hair. - After 1 month of use I *REALLY* noticed an increase in hair loss within the first 3 weeks. I also lost NEW GROWTH. My hair *DID* seems pretty dry, almost frizzy, for a while. I find that my hair and scalp have adjusted to the new shampoo/conditioner. Despite the increased elimination, he stayed cool and let the system work its magic. I guess I'm getting rid of the limp dead hairs that should have fallen out anyway. Put it down, let's move on! Week 4, I haven't lost that much and my hair was soft, silky and had tons of volume. I wash my hair every day. It probably shouldn't, but if I didn't it would look like a grease trap. This material allows your hair to stand up at the roots, which is nice. Back then I used some Toppix hair coverage to fill in my part a bit until it all started to grow back. It made me feel less confident. ---------- Month 2 ---------- My hair loss has been minimal in my opinion. Instead of losing about 70 hairs while styling in the midst of my hair loss, I now lose a maximum of 20-30 hairs in the morning. I don't pull my hair out of my shirt during the day. My hair is left soft, silky and full of body. I wash my hair every day (at night before bed and in the morning just wet/comb, blow dry), leave the conditioner in for about 2 minutes (when I feel it getting cool and tingly) and use a scalp treatment. Daily. For a scalp treatment, shake it well, I hold it about 2 inches from the scalp and spray on part of the hair. Massage. There aren't any guidelines, so I thought it might help! This is about 9 months past my probable trigger point. ----------- Month 3 (March 2019) ----- ----- I'm still losing about 20 pounds in weight which I notice when I style my hair in the morning. Not bad, but of course I always notice that from now on. Stress levels are low, I'm taking vitamins every day and I'm seeing slow progress. My parting and crown look much better. Now I sometimes forget to spritz Toppix Hair Balm in the morning. I really like this material because it really hides the screaming whiteness of the scalp. The specific part of my hair where I see the most noticeable difference is where my bangs meet the longer section of my hair. Last fall I combed my bangs to hide the visible bare scalp. Now I can comb and style my hair as usual. Still thin at the top, but I hope things continue to progress. My parts aren't getting any wider and I can still see all of my new little sprouts on top, so yeah, positive! I no longer went to the hairdresser in any salon for fear that someone would say something. because of course I'm going to panic again. I will cut my hair at home for now, thanks. I colored my hair at home using one of the L'Oreal kits and the color lasted the usual 4 weeks. I always go for the red shade and they don't last long anyway. There is no noticeable increase or decrease after staining. ---------- Month 4 (April 2019) ---------- Still moving in a positive direction. Slow but steady progress! The main stressors also disappeared at this point. ----------- Month 6 (June 2019)---------- This will be 1 year after my probable trigger point. I would say (and I wish I had photos but I deleted them because I was angry) the worst period was between October and November 2018, at the 6 month mark. I started taking Nioxin once in November (maybe it was a combination of things who knows) but my hair really stopped falling out in January 2019. Since then things have been looking up. I no longer use the Toppix insert. I style my hair and keep going all day. I don't have a luscious mane and never had it, but at least it's back to normal now! ----------- 1 year later (October 2019) ---------- Here is the baseline so far: 1.5 years after shedding, 1.25 years after moulting started , 1 year after starting Nioxin, 10 months reduced molting. **slowly** decreases over time. Now I lose maybe 10/20 of my hair in the morning styling. At barn level, my sink would be covered in hair. I feel like my hair is almost back to normal at this point. I also suddenly had a bunch of sprouts! In the photo it is difficult to see, but there are such small ones! Up until the last month or so I think I've "kept" what I have without getting denser/thicker. Suddenly it seems like it's just starting to grow! I will continue to use Nioxin - love the look of my hair and the mint refreshes in the shower. After drying, it always looks clean and soft. It also no longer falls into spades. Still, I cut my hair. I alternately found deals for what I needed between Revain and Ulta. You can always find a discount somewhere, you just have to look! More expensive than grocery stores but worth it in the long run. As a reminder, these are *not* hair repair products like Propecia or Rogaine. Instead, they simply cleanse and promote a healthier, more stimulated scalp. Good environment for hair growth. and it takes time. With everything I've tried (and also trying to stay calm) between vitamins, this system and just taking better care of my hair in general, this is really the sum of everything that has worked for me. Good luck from me for your progress!
