Doesn't work with newer Macs - Misleading Apple Item Description

Lately I've been using my laptop to play audiobooks and music through my home audio system while fumbling around and getting tired of going back to my car to fiddle with the volume or fast forward/rewind/pause the audio. I could really use the remote control. I poked around a bit and saw this. I read the product description above and it says "Remotely control your Mac, iPod or iPhone with the sleek aluminum Apple Remote." So it will work with my MacBook Pro, right. ? Why not? I remember they came with all Macs ten years ago. I used to have a small collection of these. They worked fine. They connected like a charm. No need to risk trying a third-party solution, just use quality Apple hardware for the best experience, right? I didn't realize it wasn't Bluetooth. This is an infrared remote control. It didn't occur to me to check if my laptop has an infrared receiver. Apple says here that it's compatible with Mac, so it should be, right? But no. no Not correct. I just received this item today. And there will be no pair. For the very rational reason that my latest Mac doesn't have an infrared sensor. The latest Mac with an infrared sensor is the 2014 Mac Mini. Also, as of 2012, Mac products are no longer equipped with a sensor. Make sure your computer is equipped with an infrared sensor. For convenience, here is a list of older Macs with infrared sensors. taken from Mactracker - I believe that's correct: Mac Mini - 2014 and earlier, MacBook Pro - non-Retina, Mid 2012 and earlier MacBook Air - Mid 2009 and earlier MacBook - Mid 2009 and earlier iMac - Mid 2011 back to the iMac G5 with iSight (2005 onwards), with the somewhat surprising lone exception of the mid-2009 20-inch model, which appears to be sensorless. Do your own hardware due diligence, check your specs before you buy. Also note that Macs with infrared sensors seem to only work with infrared Apple remotes and not with other infrared devices. Apple just loves to make us just buying their hardware and peripherals is how they make their billions. 4th generation Apple TVs (and hopefully later Apple TVs?) are exceptions to this rule. While I'm wrong here, I wouldn't expect this Apple Remote to work with other non-Mac or Apple infrared devices.

Cons
