Oddly enough, my '89 Camaro IROC-Z had a two-piece wire that used to be commonly used with non-electronic cruise controls. Somewhere, however, someone must have used the wrong lubricant because the speedometer needle jumped. and bad in the cold winter months. This causes problems by sending an erroneous signal to the ECM. For the money it was the perfect solution. Instead of removing the old cable, it's worth just trying to gently scrape the thick layer of dirt off the old case to loosen the cable. Worked well and was a perfect replacement. Bend the original cable at a 90 degree angle. It's just an aluminum sleeve around the cable. I removed mine and installed it on the cable. But it's not really necessary.
