Review on Goldspatz Spaetzle Board & Scraper for Traditional Swabian Spaetzle - #2196 by Belkis Rivas

Suitable for kitchen and dining room

My mother has an old, possibly antique spaetzle or spaetzle board. I had never seen her make spaetzle out of it, but I was interested in learning. I watched videos on YouTube and it seemed to me that with practice I could handle it. So I went in search of my tools. This set is shown in several videos. Mine has a few knots and I don't know how that affects durability. But it works fine. The included blade scraper is handy, but I needed my hand to be over the boiling water when scraping the pasta and it wasn't that handy. One video showed a woman using a long-handled icing spatula and I'll try that next. The noodle itself came out pretty good. My mom kneaded the dough, and I made real noodles by placing a spoon on a board, flattening it, and then scraping the noodles into boiling water with a spatula. Everything went quite quickly, we were satisfied with the result. Some were really big, but the rest mostly looked like homemade spaetzle. I'm sure I can do it with a little practice. Next time I'll use a long icing spatula instead of the included blade and see what happens. I will also keep an eye on this board for warping or other damage from the many small knots. I'm not sure about the wood, it could be solid wood, but the wood doesn't seem to be of very high quality. So these are averages for me. But I'm very glad that I was able to get such an ethnic branded item here in the US through Amazon.
