The best door for dogs!

I wish my 87 lb Akita could go out in the garden so decided to go all out and ordered a door with a Home Depot pet door pre-installed. What mistake. Initially, the pet door was set so low that my large dog couldn't get through without crouching. And the damper rarely closes directly, allowing outside air into the barn and heated or cooled barn air out. In search of a better alternative, I came across the Ruff-Weather pet door. After reading all the reviews I decided to give it a try. Wow what a difference. First, the doors close smoothly every time and they are made of heavier, higher quality vinyl/plastic than the previous pet door. In addition, the presence of two of them provided an insulating air gap. In the winter I would put my hands outside the dog door looking for cold drafts and never felt any - amazing! In addition, the wings stay in place in windy weather, and when it's raining outside, water doesn't get in. I love this dog door! The only advice I can give is about depth. Due to the double valves, the depth when delivered is already about 4-5 inches. I installed it in a 2" thick solid wood door resulting in a new overall depth of 7". My 25" tall (at the shoulder) Akita can *easily* step over it with his 17" legs, but a dog with shorter legs will need a smaller threshold to step over. So pay attention to the thickness of your door and the height of the bottom of the pet door. Other than that I cannot recommend this pet door, I have had it for a year now and it still works like new.
