Not a 'real' slow cooker but its worth in itself

I've wandered around those kitchen shops where you drool over everything and can't afford anything. And I had a craving for one of their high-end branded multi-cookers that easily move from stovetop to oven and fridge (for a few hundred dollars). And that made me wonder if there's a cheaper way to get the benefit (if not printing) of these things. Enter West Bend's Versatile Slow Cooker. base to prevent sticking), you can do whatever you want with it, including placing it on the included burner block. But you can also use it to sear meat on the stovetop in the same pot you use for slow cooking (saves the hassle of putting a second pot in the dishwasher). You can also omit the base and pop the item straight into the oven if you'd like. And it's light enough that you won't dislocate your shoulder. But the mystique of a slow cooker with a ceramic bowl that radiates radiant heat around your roast or stew is gone. Here you only get a pot and a spare burner. But in fact for most things this is what you need. You don't really need radiant heat; You need a burner that you can leave on during the day without worrying about your house burning down. And that's what you get here. You can even use the base as a small frying pan. But this added versatility poses some problems for people who aren't careful. The knob at the base switches from Warm Up to High and then continues (similar to the amp in Spinal Tap switching to 11 instead of 10). The top heat setting is for pan use, not for slow cooking. So you can burn things if you're not careful what you're doing. you might want to try this one. Even if you don't often use the base as a burner, you still get another cooking pot. But if your slow cooker is all about the mysteries of radiant heat, stick with the tried-and-true (and heavy) crock pots of yesteryear.
