Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good price, excellent quality

We haven't had a kettle on the stove for many years; However, after the early demise of our newly purchased kettle and while waiting for a warranty claim to be resolved, I set out to find a kettle for our gas stove. After studying all the price ranges, features and reviews, I decided to go for it. My philosophy in writing reviews is that I take responsibility for what I choose, and if an item meets the advertised features, function, and performance, it gets five releases. If, after using it, it no longer performs as intended, I'll change the rating and start downgrading. That being said, I rated this product five stars because it does exactly what it's supposed to do; heats water, whistles, if the flame is set correctly, none of the plastic parts melt or heat up to the point where you couldn't touch them with your bare hands, nice and shiny inside and out, the build quality seems reasonable, light (doesn't make it difficult definitely better, just hard) and for the price it seems like an exceptional buy. A really nice feature is that the handle can be folded sideways in one direction, which makes filling and cleaning much easier. Some common sense remarks: It whistles from low to high flame settings, only changing pitch. I found the medium flame setting to be more than adequate, but it really depends on the size of your burner. There is no benefit if the flame rises up the sides of the kettle, it must be below the kettle. It only whistles when there is sufficient steam pressure above the water. Yes, you will see steam coming out of the whistle without a whistle until internal pressure builds up. It's basically a boiler and the whistle acts as a safety valve. If you don't wait for the pressure to build up and turn it off, you may mistakenly assume the whistle isn't working. But the whole point of the whistle is that you can go and the whistle lets you know it's ready. Standing there, you don't need a whistle. I assume that limescale and minerals will build up inside over time. That depends on the quality of our water, not the kettle. Past experience with similar kettles shows that you don't leave the water in it overnight (it'll still be stale by then) and descale it from time to time (vinegar and distilled water seem to work well) before it becomes a chore . Conclusion - for the price I think it is exceptionally valuable. If history proves otherwise, I'll change the rating accordingly.
