I have used this great product on an aluminum headed lawnmower engine that had a cross threaded spark plug and I did it without removing the head. This is how I applied it Put a thick grease on the threads of the hammer to make the metal shavings stick to it, then take a piece of cloth and apply grease to it until it is completely saturated, placing the piston at the bottom of its stroke to shut it leaving room for the tap, then slide the grease-soaked cloth through the spark plug hole, the grease on the cloth will make the metal filings stick to the greasy tissue, but it doesn't quite reach them, so after pressing the hole, use needle-nosed pliers. and pull out the cloth, then use an air hose and blow out the remaining chips. This works best when using a liquid lubricant that is sprayed into the spark plug hole to loosen and dilute the lubricant in the piston. I used Sea F. So keep doing this until you are sure that all the metal shavings are removed and please wear safety goggles as the metal shavings will fly out of the spark plug hole in the piston. You can also do this without grease or a piece of greasy cloth, you need to position the piston so that the exhaust valve is open and then blow the metal shavings out of the spark plug hole and some of them will come out through the exhaust valve. works better if you put a vacuum cleaner hose in the muffler, remember these methods should only be done if the head is aluminum because if you don't remove all the aluminum shavings then it's not that critical as aluminum is a soft metal and shouldn't damage the innards like it would if it were steel filings, the witch would wreck the motor, hope this helps!
