A good balance of safety and cutting. My kids have to work hard to cut themselves with them, so I'm not disappointed that they don't cut veggies or cheese as well as the adult knives I used to use. They are much more efficient at sawing than chopping/pressing produce. As far as I can tell my kids aren't upset about it (although I don't want to cut everything, but then again they've never used a sharp metal knife so they don't see the difference). I've only had them for a few days but they seem to continue to hold up well when washed in the dishwasher (heat dryer off otherwise they may melt or warp). I like that they are one piece so there is no coating to chip off or places for moisture to collect.
