Review on ๐Ÿพ Petmate Kennel Cab: Secure and Spacious Travel Companion for Your Beloved Pet by Oscar Rhodes

Pay attention to the size

I am returning this cage because after several trips around town with my dog I feel that it is too narrow to be comfortable. Due to the rounded shape of the kennel, the floor space is much smaller than you might think. I measured the inside width at the widest point and it's only 13 inches (the listed width for the plus size is 18.6 inches). Only 12 inches wide at the door and at the other end. I wrote the rest of this review before the test drive. I still think it's a pretty good kennel for the money. I bought Large. The measurements on Amazon were accurate: 26.2 x 18.6 x 16.5, but the size of the dog is incorrect or misleading. Note that all dimensions are shown on the outside, including any bits of plastic that protrude outwards, so the interior space is reduced. According to Revain, it fits dogs up to 15 inches in size. . Every cage I've seen uses shoulder height, so I assumed that's what it meant, and that's the normal way of measuring a dog. There is a chart on the label of the crate itself stating that the dog is measured at the shoulder and this gives a height of 12 inches. This gives the dog a length of 21 inches from the tip of the muzzle to the back heel. I think it will be ok for my dog because he is in the car and I want her to lie in it while driving. The interior is about the same size as the padded kennel (Firstrax Port-A-Crate E2 Indoor/Outdoor Pet Home, 24") that we use as a volunteer den at home, so I know she can get in and turn around (The Firstrax form gives a full-length floor occupying an area of 24 x 18 boxes - the Petmate loses quite a bit of floor space, mostly in width but even in length.) It won't encourage standing upright sit or stand up (my dog is about 14" in the shoulder). (I installed it in my living room and locked the door in the open position and my dog is napping in it now! Good sign.) I found it a bit difficult to to assemble it correctly but it worked out in the end.Back then it was quite difficult to secure the plastic fasteners, it was very easy to believe that one of them was locked when it wasn't.I wouldn't dream of it thinking about just taking this thing apart carelessly, and I think its lifespan would be greatly shortened if I did it regularly. It was difficult to put back in place, I broke the small storage compartment at the top of the trunk. tried it for the first time. It was kind of half open, and with little effort, one end of the hinge snapped and flew sideways. Mine came with no direction; They can be found on the internet. I have emailed Petmate regarding the warranty as I have nothing in writing. Their website and online manual states that it comes with a 5 year warranty. The seat belt slot looks like a joke and there are no instructions on how to use it. It looks like the kennel has to be seated door forward to somehow insert the seat belt into the slot. I have some alternative ideas on how to secure it in the car. Not bad for this money. Don't try to use it on a dog that's trying to run away. I think they could easily gnaw through or tease the seat belt slot and make it bigger. It's nice and light, so I can easily take it off the car when I don't need it. I would NEVER carry this cage with an animal in it - I can't speak for smaller cages but I certainly don't think you can pull a 20 pound animal by the cage's handle. It is made in the USA. .
