Review on Shimano HG71 6-8 Speed Chain by Jared Winebrenner

This is the highest quality Shimano chain you can buy for a 7/8 speed drivetrain. I use them on my road bikes and mountain bikes. The last ones I bought came in individual plastic bags, not a box, and they didn't come with a Hyperglide needle. I have a few of these in the parts box so that's not a problem, but be aware. They are also (and always have been) packed in heavy motor oil that needs to be flushed before installation. I've been using Shimano chains for over 30 years and I've never broken one. There are other brands that will fit the old Shimano drivetrain, but stick with the one you trust. Sooner or later Shimano will no longer make 8-speed drivetrains and the supply of replacement chains will soon run out. Buy them while they last.
