This GE bulb replaces a cheap third party bulb that only lasted a year with normal use. Much brighter, that's for sure. I'll report on durability if that becomes an issue. It was definitely more expensive, but considering that changing the pool bulb is such a chore, I'm happy to pay a little more if the bulb lasts. I suspect that area buyers must be extremely price conscious as all local pool shops stock only the cheapest unbranded lights and I have had no luck with their durability. UPDATE 10/30/2015: This lamp is still going strong after 2 years. And to think that after replacing 2 lightbulbs in just a few months I started to suspect faulty wiring in my pool lights. Turns out I was just dealing with cheap other brand pool lights from the local pool store. It's surprising that two in a row were bad, but I suppose that's what happens with cheap stuff. Sure, the cheap bulbs were less than half the price of this excellent GE bulb, but that just proves you get what you pay for. I would rather pay more for something durable, especially in the case of a pool light that is difficult to replace.
