Review on IRISCan Document Handheld Portable Scanner Scanners in Document Scanners by Tom Duncan

Books with large margins only

First, the scanner glass does not reach to the edge, so scanning books with small margins is not possible. My paperbacks will barely make it to the page, if ever. Second, Wi-Fi isn't really Wi-Fi. It's a weird Bluetooth that connects over Wi-Fi. It would be better if they just did a Bluetooth connection. This will disable your internet and you will need to open a browser to access the files. Strange and stupid. Third, software bug. A lot of. This software doesn't recognize words very well, it often combines sentences, although the scanning is direct and clear. And when I go to save the document, your changes are not saved. I also tried saving in epub.no format. It just closes without saving. You don't even have the option to save to a folder like the PDF option does. Fourth, scanning properly takes some practice. There's a bit of a learning curve, and you pretty much have to follow it even as you drag it down the page. Yes, sometimes it recognizes words even if they're stretched or anti-aliased, but often it does the same with searchable text and/or changes the font to bold, italic, or other fonts. This product is more trouble than it's worth if you're trying to digitize paperback books. Big Books. Maybe. Flat documents would be faster/just as good with a flatbed scanner. I chose CZUR because the software is MUCH better. It won't export to epub, but there are ways to do that once it's searchable as a PDF. If you want to scan books or magazines with small margins, look elsewhere.
