Review on Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Kitti Sak ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I really like the product, it fully meets my expectations.

I have been contemplating my choice for shooting wildlife for some time. There are ideal options from Nikon - these are 200-400 f / 4 and 400 f / 2.8 But not only are they cosmically expensive and sometimes it's scary to go into the fields with them :) they are also guns. In terms of size and weight. There are also Sigma and Nikon 200-500, as he wrote. But it is still heavier, which is very important if you walk through forests and meadows for both your back and neck and arms. There is a Nikon 300 f / 4 - I thought about it for a long time, when using x2 we get 600 mm. with a good picture. And this is used by many animalists. But still it is a fix, which is sometimes not very convenient. In the end, I settled on this option. First of all, I took off his paw and native hood. Instead of a native, I bought a Chinese rubber one. In this form, it fits into the large Think Tank Holster case that I always go with. On the way to the hunting place, I put it all in my backpack. Yes, the lens also has a terrible native cover - it completely killed me in six months - small plastics began to come off it and it stopped holding on. I took a Chinese one from the same company as the rubber hood - excellent. As a result, we have a relatively light, conveniently transportable on foot, quickly alerted system. Light enough. Absolutely suitable for handheld shooting (I do most of the shots with it that way). I think it is no coincidence that she has gained great popularity among wildlife lovers. I think, also, it is no coincidence that in stores that sell officially, the price for it and Nikon 200-500 is now equal! For me it was surprising, because the Tamron was cheaper. But apparently popularity raised its price. This may not be entirely fair, since the picture on Nikon is better, but - the invisible hand of the market . In the end, we can say that the Tamron SP AF 150-600mm f / 5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (A022) Nikon F is not absolutely better than others. It loses in a number of important positions, but in aggregate it gains the upper hand for its audience.

Pros
  • Noticeably lighter than competitors, which is very important for "running" photography. 600mm is a very important focal length for wildlife photography. It can be obtained in different ways, but with the help of this glass, it is probably the most convenient and most budgetary. Alternatives are either more expensive, or heavier, or do not allow you to vary the focal length when you need it. Good stabilization.
Cons
  • The picture, of course, is worse than on the native Nikonovsky 200-500. More soapy, the field is less even. I had to shoot at competitions on this Nikon, so I can say for sure. But for wildlife, you are most often interested in the center. It becomes more or less sharp from aperture 8. The levers for autofocus, stabilization, focusing distance are often touched by a case and they switch. Focus is not super fast, sometimes it does not catch the target in time. The native hood and leg are monstrous, significantly reducing mobility.
