Bought an Xbox One without a Kinect? This is the cable you need.

When Microsoft decided to offer Xbox One without the Kinect, I was overjoyed. an easy way to save $100 on a peripheral I don't need. As far as I know I could still enjoy all the features of an Xbox One media hub without the Kinect, I just needed a special cable called an IR emitter. Imagine my surprise when I found out that Microsoft didn't sell it or officially endorse it. And of course neither the Microsoft Store nor GameStop nor the Xbox forums I searched had any suggestions for me. So, after some self-education, I rolled the dice and bought this baby. And let me just say I couldn't be happier. I would like to unofficially recommend this cable to all Xbox One owners who want to control their TV, cable box or sound system with an Xbox remote or SmartGlass app. The two red nodes work. individually. If you want your Xbox to communicate with your electronics, the red node at the end needs to be placed in CLEAR LINE OF SIGHT in front of it. I found that for my setup I had to separate them (i.e. physically pull them apart at the seam) for this to happen. There is a small piece of glue under each knot if you want to place it somewhere permanently. I installed one node in front of the cable box and the other in front of the TV and soundbar. I can change volume, mute with Xbox remote or smartglass app. The TV is connected to my Xbox One's HDMI port, so I can switch channels and use OneGuide to view upcoming programs. AKA = I can do everything Kinect owners can do with my remote, except voice control. Ready. After months of consistent use, I'm happy to say that this cable helped me have the experience I was hoping for with my new Xbox.
