You need patience, knowledge of measurements and nails!

It took me just over two hours to measure, cut, connect, wrap and glue the two large pieces that came for my 40 gallon tank myself. Luckily I have some free space to work with, which makes wrapping and tapping the seams easier. The supplied top piece (oval) was measured, cut and glued to the top of the 24" piece and to the top of the tank around the vent. I worked from the bottom up. The problem I had was detaching the paper strips from the strips of tape in each 24 inch piece that adhere to the foam insulation, that was a pain and you need nails here. Luckily I have half length as I am a woman. The included foil tape worked well, but again you need your nails to peel the backing off, so rip the backing straight across or keep trying to separate the paper from the tape. But in general it turned out very well. It's a gas water heater so not sure how to measure my savings, just hoping the hot water on the taps warms up quicker. I only used 2 24" sheets (each 24" bedspread is 68" long with a 5" overlap). I taped all the seams and holes where I cut and measured. The tape adheres perfectly to the tank and to each other. Foil tape can be removed if you need to make adjustments. So I'm going to wrap the copper pipes with the remaining extra insulation using the remaining foil tape and duct tape if necessary. And remember not to block the vents, good luck!
