Children's scissors I buy to trim the dog's hair because I don't want to accidentally stab it with a sharp point. These scissors are amazingly sharp and I am very happy with them. As for kids, I would let them use them after showing them how to use scissors. If you have 2 or more children and leave the room they are in for a short time, be careful! I used to do this with my kids and they gave each other adorable little haircuts.
