Inexpensive: Spare parts

There is a huge price range for tailgate dampers depending on the supplier. It was a very profitable supplier. Shock absorbers fit as stated. I'm not Mr. Fixit so be aware that the replacement is pretty straightforward. You will need a screwdriver and possibly pliers.
