Well made neon lamp. True neon, not LED

The essentials. This is a true neon lamp, not an LED replacement. This is a very well made lamp. Proper isolation of the resistor from the lamp itself will prevent a short circuit. Crimping the wires to the body of the case means there are no wires moving which can cause fatigue and broken connections. The only downside is that it is a non-replaceable neon lamp. Completely unattended. I removed the capsule from the lamp to change the resistance. The lamp was not delivered disassembled (as shown in the photo). There is a corrugated aluminum band that holds the diffuser to the body. It can be replaced if you have a special tool. The lamp has a 30k resistor. Judging by the size of the lamp it is of the 90V variant and therefore has a power consumption of 90mW (1mA) at 120V. It is quite bright even at 1mA; Daylight is clearly bright. I changed the resistor to 220k to work from 240V. The lamp is still visible in room lighting at 120V and bright at 240V; although the current has been reduced to (0.68 mA). If you decide to modify your lamp, you can probably increase the life many times over (4-5 times the rated life) with a slightly noticeable reduction in brightness.

Pros
  • Controls and indicators
Cons
  • Expensive
